Current Divider Calculator

In a parallel circuit, voltage remains constant across all branches, but the current is divided based on the individual resistance of each path. This tool is critical for designing shunt circuits, ammeter extensions, and multi-load power distribution.

How to use this calculator:

  • Define Total Current: Enter the total amperage entering the parallel network.
  • Add Branches: Use the “+Add Branch” button to simulate up to 6 parallel resistors.
  • Analyze Distribution: Observe how current decreases in branches with higher resistance and increases in paths with lower resistance.
  • Verify Power: Use the calculated branch currents to ensure your individual resistors meet the required power ratings (P = (I^2)R).
