SMD Capacitor Code Calculator

This utility decodes the markings found on surface-mount capacitors to help you identify their capacitance values. Because SMD components are often too small for full text, standardized short-hand codes are used.

Use this tool to:

  • Identify unlabeled components by decoding the 3 or 4-digit markings found on ceramic (MLCC) or tantalum component reels and bodies.
  • Translate EIA-198 Alphanumeric codes, which use a letter for a base value and a number for the multiplier (e.g., S3 = 4.7nF).
  • Verify stock inventory quickly during the PCB assembly process to ensure the correct values are placed on the pick-and-place feeders.
